Chetan Sharma too Jumps into Political Arena Print E-mail
Pitched By Cricket360 Observer

Rating 3.0/5 (2 votes)

One more cricketer seems to have succumbed to the temptation of politics and has decided to throw his hat in the ring to walk into the august hall of the Parliament of India. The cricket is Chetan Sharma , but the difference is that he would be the first cricketer who instead of joining either of the mainstream parties has decided to cast his lot with the emerging party in the country, BSP, finds out Cricket360 . From this perspective he would be the first celebrity from sports arena who has decided to cast his lot with BSP.

Bringing sports persons into the political arena was a trend which was started around 20 years ago, and the lead in this direction was taken by Chetan Chauhan, the erstwhile Indian opener and Aslam Sher Khan the captain of the Indian Hockey team which had won the world cup. Both these players had chosen BJP as the party to seek elections, informs Cricket360.com.

From the Cricket team that had won the World Cup in 1983, one player has already made a successful transition to politics, the player being Kirti Azaad, and Navjot Singh Sidhu has followed him after a long hiatus. As a matter of fact, Sidhu has been the most successful sports star that has adopted politics like the duck to the water, and is now among the key figures in the BJP political hierarchy having the potential to sway the audience with his oratory skills.

After a long time Chetan Sharma has decided to test waters. The moot point is, whether he would be able to emulate the success of his peers, as they had the transition, which was followed by a high-octane public life, which had facilitated in a great visibility, and the elections were won on their own merit. For Chetan Sharma to write out his political career in the same manner would indeed be a difficult task.

India, or for that matter the sub-continent would be few of the places in the world where cricket stars of the yester years have been able to successfully transform into a accomplished politician. A great success story in this regard is that of Imran Khan who is literally the voice of opposition in Pakistan, and he has been able to do so, owing to charisma associated with his name.

For the crickets to be a successful, he needs to have an aura or a charisma. Chetan Sharma does not have it. So can he buck the trend and can he open a successful political innings.
