Sachin Won’t Disturb Settled T20 Team Print E-mail

Sachin Tendulkar has announced that he will continue not to play international T20 games, since the present T20 side is a settled one has been since the 2007 T20 world cup. Of his decision to play in the Indian Premier League T20 matches he said that he has been part of the side since the beginning and that there is a sense of continuity there.

Sachin Tendulkar’s return from Sri Lanka after the completion of the one day series and prior to the one off Twenty20 Match had caused much controversy and even some speculation about his fitness. The rumour and conjecture in the cricket news was all quelled when it was revealed that Sachin was never meant to be part of the T20 team and had sought permission to go home. The team and management were always aware that he would be leaving. Plus there is the fact of Sachin’s basic aversion to the T20 game…

Sachin - Contributing to Team in every sense!Sachin is unwilling to disturb a settled Indian T20 team which won the 2007 T20 world cup.  So he has ruled himself out of playing T20 matches in international cricket; even the 2 upcoming T20 matches to be played in New Zealand. "I would continue not to play Twenty20 (international). The team is settled and I don't want to disturb it. That's why I won't be a part of the T20 team (in New Zealand)," Tendulkar said. "When I had decided not to play Twenty20 after Indian tour in 2007, my body was a bit tired and it needed rest. It was not appropriate to go (to South Africa) and not give my best. After that the team had settled down and did well," he clarified his position on T20 internationals.

The next logical question then would be how is it that Tendulkar is willing to play for the Indian Premier League’s Mumbai Indians team, which is also in the T20 format? To that he has responded by saying that he has been part of that team from its inception and there is therefore continuity in that.

Looking ahead toward the upcoming tour of New Zealand , Sachin has said that this will be a challenging tour since the conditions are a big part of playing in New Zealand. "It's going to be a challenge playing New Zealand in New Zealand, especially for the ones who have not played there before. It's a fairly new team and the conditions there will be an entirely new experience. It's going to be a learning experience for them."

On this tour, India and New Zealand will be playing 2 T20 games, followed by 5 ODIs and then 3 test matches.
