Advent of coaching as a business has indeed emerged as a business proposition, which serves as the veritable proposition for the players who have had a good international career in cricket. The boundaries have also been transcended, and the region or the country for a player is of no consequence, but his individual merit is the deciding factor in selection of the joke. Sri Lanka was a pioneer in this direction and had sought the services of Dev Whitmore, who incidentally is the coach at National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Geoff Lawson , the former Australian fast bowler also followed in the same leak, and was appointed the coach of Pakistan Cricket team after murder of Bob Woolmer.

Possible reason, why Buchanan has not accepted to coach the English team may be that it is a full time job while for Indian Players League, his duties as a coach are required for a shorter duration and he can pursue his own engagements in between the gaps. Buchanan was also not inclined on account of the fact that he would have to coach England against Australia for Ashes, which was an existentialist dilemma for him. Lawson is being penciled on; on account of the tough no-non-sense approach that Lawson has built for himself, which is the need of the hour for the England team on account of various controversies that have come to associate with the England team in the recent past. Does the ECCB by selecting Lawson also is giving a message to the team, more so the maverick players like Pietersen and Flintoff, that the team discipline is of paramount importance, and personalities have to subsume their identity to the cause of the time and not vice versa. The moot point is whether Lawson would be exorcised by the existentialist dilemma, which prevented Buchanan from taking up this job. Time can only tell.
