The NZ Troop is in Place for Taking on Aussies in T-20 Print E-mail

This 15th, New Zealand is going to face the Aussies in the Twenty-20 match in Sydney. And Vettori has got his troop ready. A Cricket360 report on the New Zealand’s T-20 squad.

A few days to go by, before the Kiwis take the crease to throw challenge to the world champions in Twenty-20 game. The upcoming Twenty-20 cricket match against Australia this Sunday will be a kind of stage rehearsal for the Kiwis on the onset of India’s NZ tour. The Indian side was waiting with batted breath for the NZ T-20 squad to be announced, as there is little possibility that it will drastically differ for the matches against India. And it came out just a few hours before the Indian selectors read out the names of their T-20 soldiers.

The 13 men squad that is going to face the Aussies in the Twenty-20 international cricket match in Sydney on 15th has shaped up like this:

  • Daniel Vettori (Captain)
  • Neil Broom
  • Ian Butler
  • Grant Elliott
  • James Franklin
  • Martin Guptill
  • Brendon McCullum
  • Nathan McCullum
  • Peter McGlashan
  • Kyle Mills
  • Iain O’Brien
  • Tim Southee
  • Ross Taylor

While explaining the rationale behind the selection of the players, Glenn Turner, the head of selection panel told the media that selectors have picked up the players with multiple skills so that they can add right value to the shortest format cricket. It seems that the picking up of Ravindra Jadeja by our national selectors in Indian T-20 squad followed the same logic.

However, let’s take a glimpse of the full Indian T-20 squad that the NZ boys going to face back home:

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Capt. & wk), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Ishant Sharma, Munaf Patel, Dinesh Karthik, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Pragyan Ojha, Rohit Sharma, Praveen Kumar, Irfan Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja.

Brendon McCullum's brother Nathan made it to the squad along with three other new faces, all of whom had exposure in international T-20 cricket format. While Nathan is an off-spinner all rounder, Ian Butler and James Franklin are pacer and Peter McGlashan is a wicket keeper batsman. Now that our team and their team (it is not wrong to assume that NZ team against India’s will not be very different from the one against Australia) are in place, now it is time for both the teams to work out the strategies to be used against each other.
