Once a fighter always a fighter. This adage is best applicable for the legend called Kapil Dev who never shies from calling a spade a spade. After he joined the Indian Cricket League, his tirade against BCCI continues unabated as he feels that the BCCI is unnecessarily interfering in the affairs so ICL.
Kapil Dev has fired his latest salvo in the on-going confrontation against the BCCI. He has filed an injunction against the BCCI lashing out at them that it is using its strong arm tactics to pressurize the public sector undertakings and other organizations to take action against players who are playing in the ICL. It should be informed that public sector undertakings are the biggest employers of the Indian players and that is why they also chip in with their might to advertise as well in the tournaments in which there players are playing. A controversy had earlier erupted when BCCI had sought interference of the public sector units and advising them to take action against the players employed by them, who were playing in Indian Cricket League. Kapil Dev feels that it unnecessary interference and harassment of the players and it goes against the spirit of the game. After he joined ICL, Kapil Dev has been waging a relentless war against BCCI on one count or the other but it all pertaining to the affairs of the ICL. After all, he is the player who single handedly catapulted the Indian cricket team among the top players of the world after they won the World Cup in 1983. So, he has all the authority to take up position, even though the position may be against the authority which promotes cricket. BCCI has the financial might to turn the fortunes of Indian Cricket League and it is deploying all kind of tactics to do the same. Its hands have also been strengthened by the direction that ICC gave to it to deal with the matter of ICL on its own. ICL as a matter of act was the precursor to the Indian Premier League and the format that IPL adopted is also the same which was put in place by Kapil Dev. Kapil Dev has this argument that the players whether they play for IPL or ICL should be allowed to play and official processes should not serve as the stumbling blocks, as cricket is supreme and it should not become subservient to the politics. Kapil Dev is a player who speaks from heart and that is what ruffles the feathers in BCCI.
