Cartoon Network Launches Programme for Children on Cricket, Catch Them Young & Hatch the Golden Egg of Market-“Cricket” Seems to be the Mantra. Cricket fever is really catching on and it seems as the Indian Premier League draws near more and more programmes would like to live in the reflected glory of IPL. It is like a Google search and the keywords is what picks up the website, so the programmes seem to be drawing from the search processes of Google to latch on to the cricket fever and increase the revenue for the channels.
Cartoon Network has decided that it is going to latch on to the euphoria that is building around cricket, and would try to give a choice to its fans to soak in the magic of cricket, like their parents do, when a cricket match involving India is telecast on the television. With this objective in mind Cartoon Network has become the first network off the block and is bringing, what it calls, India’s first day and night match in the Toon world – ‘Toon Cricket - The Battle for the Omnitrix’, It has been played out in Hyderabad on February 15 and would be held in Mumbai on February 22. Toon Cricket combines Indian kids’ two biggest passions – cartoons and cricket. Indeed, as a category, cartoon holds the same passion in the Indian viewers psyche, as does cricket. It is manifest from the times most of us spend in watching Tom and Jerry shows along with our children, as it has the ability to rid us of all our tension. On this count, it has more value than cricket, as in cricket you may have the passion of frustration, but not so in cartoon. No wonder, it is a brilliant brain wave. There would be two teams playing in this Toon Cricket, and they have been named as Bentastic and Maximojo. In its sixth successful run, Cartoon Network’s most celebrated event promises maximum action and excitement as the popular Toons captained by the youngest superhero Ben Tennyson from Ben 10 and the evil Mojo Jojo from The Powerpuff Girls get ready to battle at the pitch. Taking a leaf out of the eyeballs that inaugural shows catch of the tournaments of cricket, this tournament would also try to add to the excitement and experience by going in for a celebratory inaugural ceremony with a sound and laser show and a live-performance by the pop band Aasma at the beginning of Toon Cricket. This year’s Toon Cricket is a quest to find the true keeper of the Omnitrix (the mysterious watch that gives Ben Tennyson his super hero abilities) and each inning will have five over of four balls each. In an effort to fulfill his desire to take over the world, Mojo Jojo has stolen the Omnitrix from Ben Tennyson. As a result, the young superhero has challenged Mojo to T-20 style cricket match. The winner will be announced as the true owner of the Omnitrix.
