They seem to have carried off from the 20-20 in Sri Lanka where the scared the wits out of the Sri Lankan team and left the audience gaping in awe at the sheer brute display of muscle power to thrash Sri Lanka. It would be one of the rare instances where no. 8&9 batsmen were able to perform this feat with such flair, panache and tenacity.
Is it a new era being written in the history of Indian cricket? Whenever they are getting the chance to play together, they are playing as if they are playing their gully match and are literally blasting the opponents away. They have done it again in the Ranji Trophy match against the much-fancied team from Mumbai. The way in which they are playing reminds of the manner in which cricket was played earlier, throwing all the caution to the winds, and playing for enjoyment of the game. If you do not enjoy your game, or your work, then you go through it like a process, but this brother duo seems to be relishing each moment that they are getting to stay on the pitch. As it is, opportunity of this kind has been presented to them off-late, earlier the younger Pathan, Irfan being a regular in the Indian team, but after his performance in the Indian premier league as a player from Rajasthan Royals, the senior Pathan Yusuf has also joined the party. Being able to defeat the much-fancied team of Mumbai is no mean feat. While Yusuf Pathan scored a 71-ball century, his younger brother Irfan remained unbeaten on 51, and together they put on a 103 run partnership to take the match away from Mumbai. Mumbai had posted an imposing target of 279 to Baroda and they had the starting trouble in the form of three quick wickets when the scoreboard had only traveled only 21 runs, and then Yusuf Pathan came to the party. Yusuf was undeterred by the early losses, and he went on to play his natural game and turned mincemeat of the Mumbai attack, which is a feared one. Yusuf's innings was studded by 7 sixes and five fours, while his younger brother, Irfan was more into ground shots hitting five fours and only one ball was sailed over the fence for the maximum impact. The brothers also performed with the ball as well, after the skipper of Baroda, Irfan won the toss and put Mumbai into bat first. While Irfan took three wickets, Yusuf scalped two victims.
