Board Proposes Court Disposes: Pak Players to play Domestic Cricket Print E-mail

Board proposes Court disposes. This seems to be the story in Pakistan. When the Pakistan Cricket Board decided to impose ban on the cricketers from Pakistan who were playing in Indian Cricket League , a ban from domestic cricket in Pakistan, the court of Pakistan ahs overruled the decision of the board and has allowed the players to play in domestic cricket in Pakistan.

While PCB may be trying to smooth the ruffled feathers of BCCI by not allowing the players from its country to play in the domestic cricket, as a punishment for playing in Indian Cricket League (ICL), the courts in Pakistan are not joining the party. As a matter of fact they are stepping in regularly to see to it that the players from Pakistan are not deprived of the legitimate opportunity to play in the domestic cricket. After all, they have the right to earn some additional income for themselves, and it is just that they are playing in India. Had they been playing in the county cricket in England, in such a scenario would the PCB have imposed the ban?

The players who have been provided the reprieve from the decision of Sindh High court include Arshad Khan, brothers Humayun Farhat and Imran Farhat, Taufeeq Umar, Imran Nazir and Riaz Afridi. Earlier the Court had cleared the path for Mohammad Sami, Abdul Razzaq, Hasan Raza, Shabbir Ahmed, Mohammad Yousuf, Rana Naved, Tahir Mughal, Shahid Yousuf, Hafiz Khalid, Naved Latif and Shahid Nazir, by lifting the domestic ban from them so that they can play in the domestic game.

Commenting on this stand taken by the Court, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt opined that as the International Cricket Council was not having an objection for players to compete in domestic cricket wherever such players file legal cases, against the ban imposed on them, the Board also would not come in the way of the decision of the court to disallow the players from playing.

But, the PCB has also decided to crack the whip for any future confusion on this count and has therefore ordained that strict measures would be in place from June 1 on all players participating in unrecognized leagues. The moot point however is that the ICL is not going to be held in March and as such the court’s intervention would mean that these players would not sit idol twiddling thumbs at home.

PCB needs to take a pragmatic view about the status of players as thee is no other way it can have a resource base to select players to do the national duty.
