While the Sindh High Court may have allowed them the reprieve, the players from Pakistan who were playing in the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) may not be allowed to play in the international cricket as indicated by ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat.
It may be matter of fact remark, but it could have serious implication for the future of Indian Cricket League (ICL). ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat has pointed out that even though the Pakistan players who had played in the ICL may have been accorded permission by the Sindh High Court to play in domestic cricket, they would still not be considered to represent their country in the international fixtures. This is fallout of the decision, which was agreed to by all the members of the ICC, whereby they would not be party to decision of promoting unauthorized cricket, though the legal authorities at the local level may have taken a decision to the contrary. As a matter of fact it could have serious repercussions as it may impinge on the future of the ICL. No player who has a cricket left in him and has a hope that he may get a call from the national team would like to be associated in any way with a tournament that may have been classified in the 'rebel' category. It is indeed a matter of conjecture whether ICC would take a view about lifting the ban from these players in the future date, so that they can be considered eligible for consideration to be selected in the national team. Pakistan is the country, which would be majorly affected by this decision, as players from Pakistan have the maximum visible presence in Indian Cricket League along with the Indian players who are now literally out of contention for the national team. Lorgat expressed the views on the sidelines of the announcement that he had come to make about ICC entering into a tie-up with Yahoo for sharing of content. ICL authorities would indeed be in a state of fix, and one wonders how this decision may pan out on the writ petition that has been filed by the Indian legend Kapil Dev in the High Court of Delhi, i.e. whether the High Court be guided by the decision of the ICC or would be guided by the decision awarded by the legal fraternity of another country.
