Another surgery in the knee, and it could have pushed him on the dead end of his international cricket career. But Symond’s right knee has made a narrow escape from the surgeon’s knife.
It was the pain in the knee that added to the already long list of troubles of the Australian all rounder. It seems Andrew Symonds finds himself times and again in the middle of cricket news following one controversy after another. However, this time luck was on Symond’s side and his knees are spared the surgeon’s knife. It was only on the New Year’s Eve, that 33 year old cricketer underwent a knee surgery, but the pain hit back again on the same knee last week in a career threatening flare up. But to the great relief of the player himself and to the relief of international cricket fraternity, his Melbourne specialist declared that the risk has subsided, and no surgery would be required to give his injured knee the healing touch. “Andrew has pinched inflamed tissue in the joint of his right knee. If the speed of his recovery continues, he may be available for selection in the Ford Ranger Cup final this Sunday,” James was quoted as saying by the 'Herald Sun'. Symonds could not take part in ongoing Ford Ranger Cup clash against South Australia at the Adelaide Oval. A sore knee forced Symonds out of the field during Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and South Australia at Adelaide Oval last week. He also performed well in Brisbane grade cricket for his club Gold Coast last month. Just when the cricketer started regaining some of his form and just when it was showing that the controversial Aussie cricketer has overcome the knee surgery trauma, it strikes once again this week, flaring up cricket news that it may force the all rounder to say good bye to international cricket. The cricket has already been kept out of the team for the on disciplinary grounds. However the green signal from the Melbourne specialist ends all speculation and he could even be available for Sunday’s Ford Ranger Cup final against Victoria. He headed straight to the specialist after spending some time off the field in Queensland’s and received the good news. It was a close save; happier time must be on the card for this troubled cricketer.
