There was this commercial of the popular energy drink Boost in which Sachin and Sehwag had featured together for he first time, and Sehwag had expressed the opinion that he idolized Sachin. The punch line of the campaign underlined the strength both of these legends bring together in unison, and Sehwag does not let any occasion got to underline this. It is reflective about the humbleness of this player.
On the eve of receiving the best performance in the year 2007-2008 from the BCCI president Shashank Manohar in Mumbai, vice Captain of the Indian team, and the flamboyant opener Sehwag opined that he would like to follow his idol Sachin Tendulkar and win the Best Cricketer of the Year award. The citation of best performance that Sehwag received brought about happiness in him, as it took him eight years of international cricket to get this award from the cricket board in India.
Sehwag disclosed that he had been a great admirer of the batting of Sachin and did not miss an opportunity to view his batting in television as it was a great learning experience and the best coaching that one could get. Getting the same award just after Sachin got it, makes the award more interesting and more coveted, opined Sehwag. The first award for Sehwag in his glorious career was the Castrol Award. He was thankful to the BCCI for this honor, opined Sehwag after receiving the Polly Umrigar Award from Board President Shashank Manohar.
At the annual awards function of the BCCI Gundappa Viswanath, the ex-India skipper and one-time middle-order mainstay, received the CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award from Manohar. One of he best exponents of batting relying on the skills of the wrist, who brought unbridled joy to millions of Indian fans with his stylish play, expressed the thought that for him the twin triumphs in 1971 in the West Indies and England were his best cricketing moments.
For Vishy, as he was popularly called, the 1971 tour under Ajit Wadekar of the West Indies and England were his best cricketing moments. One of the first team to chase a score of 400-plus and to win it (at Port of Spain in Trinidad in 1976) and to score a hundred in the same much is a moment that he would always cherish said Vishy, who now has made the IT city of India, Bangalore his abode.
