Even before the first ball has been bowled in the IPL tournament of the second season, controversies of all kinds are raising their head. There was a speculation that the final match could have been played in the Cricket club of India, ground Mumbai but it has now been ruled out.
The zeal of the members of Cricket club of India, CCI seems to have emerged as the factor whereby, the final match of Indian Premier League, which could have been played in the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, has now been ruled out. The contentious issue was the members of the CCI, were not agreeable to accede there right of viewership from the vantage point. The organizers of IPL had informed that when the ground would be taken up, the privilege that is extended to the premium members of free viewership would not be available to them. This turned out to the root cause as the members refused to let their privilege go. This decision was arrived at, after an open session of the members was conducted to thrash out the issue. During this open house session, the members refused to accept the demands of Rajasthan Royals. As a result of this refusal, the Club Executive Committee of the Club decided to cancel the EGM, which was convened on February 27 to amend the by-laws that would have entailed the members to give up their rights to access the clubhouse for all cricket matches at the Brabourne Stadium. Rajasthan Royals had submitted a request to the CCI to stage the final, but the members expressed dissatisfaction on the terms and conditions. Resultedly, the EGM has been canceled by the members informed an official of the CCI. CCI had requested the Royals to revise their terms and conditions before the open house meeting, but the new offer also did not leave much scope for maneuvering so the decision was arrived at, not to convene the EGM. As per the covenants of the IPL the winner of the Indian Premier League has the rights to choose the venue for playing of the final match, and Rajasthan Royals, by virtue of being the defending champion, had the option to choose the venue of the final this year, while Chennai Super Kings has the option to choose the venue of the two semifinals. The Royals now have the option to choose D.Y. Patil (Nerul) or any other city.
