As per the terms and conditions of the Indian Premier League, any franchisee can choose two venues to host the matches, provided the venue is in and around the catchment area of the location of franchisee. So for IPL second season, Deccan Chargers have decided to host two matches at Visakhapatnam or Vizag as well.
According to the Chief Executive of Indian Premier League, Lalit Modi, Visakhapatnam or Vizag as it is also known, is the third alternative venue short listed after Cuttack and Ahmedabad. Cuttack and Ahmedabad were being penciled as alternate venues for Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians. Is it the portent for the future to unfold or the authorities at Deccan Chargers sensing the change in the political equations as it is developing in Ahmedabad, with the formal agreement for creation of a new state of Telengana being agreed to in principle, have decided to host two of the matches at Visakhapatnam It would be one of the cities that may view for being the capital of the new state; Telengana. Remaining matches of the itinerary of Deccan Chargers would be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the regular venue. It was indicated by Modi in a recent statement that defending champions Rajasthan Royals' home games may be shifted out of Jaipur, which hosted all its games last season, owing to administrative reasons. He was also hopeful that the controversy associated with Big TV (which is one of the direct-to-home (DTH) service providers in India of snapping the ties with IPL and cancellation of a US$31.16 million deal, though a setback would ultimately fall in place. Big TV had severed the contract because of a separate deal between IPL broadcaster Sony and another DTH provider. Modi informed that IPL was jointly working with the management team at Sony to address the issue, and had the confidence that the issue would be amicably resolved, particularly the operational issues to the satisfaction of all the concerned parties. Modi also clarified that the sponsors have not run away as the news in media suggests, and he brought it out to the notice that not a single partner has so far deserted the brand wagon of Indian Premier League. Besides, there are no problems of payments on the part of sponsors informed Modi, as all of them had paid according to their individual schedules. Emphasizing the outreach of IPL, Modi underlined the fact that IPL had received a lot of offers from potential sponsors at multiple prices willing to pay much more to associate with Indian Premier League.
