Waugh welcomes Ponting’s Decision of Country above IPL Print E-mail
Pitched By Cricket360 Reporter

Steve Waugh has appreciated the stand taken by the Australian Captain Ricky Ponting that he would prefer rather to stay home with his family for the 15 days break than go and play some matches in the Indian Premier League and make moolah, as for him the cause of the team as much more contextual than making money in the Indian Premier League in India. Waugh seems to be enthralled by the expression of nationalism that Ponting has expressed through this initiative. But is it the reason?

Australian Captain Ricky Ponting has decided that he would not make himself available to the Kolkata Knight Riders for the second season as he feels that he should take rest, spend time with the family and prepare himself mentally for one of the busiest international cricket tourney that Australia would be embarking on. With the reputation of the Australians team already under tatters on account of the humiliating defeat that South Africa inflicted on him, it appears a good choice. Even his ex-boss Steve Waugh appreciates the efforts. Ponting who is leading one of the most inexperienced sides to South Africa announced this intention from South Africa.

The moot point is whether he is sensing a defeat against the mighty South Africans and therefore has decided to take the easy way out of hiding from the media for the time being, and let the controversy die down, if it happens. But Ponting forgets that he not a clean professional as his former boss Steve Waugh and none of his actions that he embarks upon, can be viewed in straight terms. There is always much more to read between the lines.

From the diaries that he has recorded of the last IPL, it is evident that there is a tiff between Ponting and the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders - Sourav Ganguly. Besides, he had a lack luster season during the first season of IPL, and as he is also not in the purple patch he has decided to drop out. It is being painted as a nationalistic endeavor, but where that so, what was the need to join the KKR in the debut season.  At that time there was quite a controversy involved, and to set them to rest he should not have come to India.

Ponting , to clear the flak against his name should indeed have come to IPL and let the blot against his name about the performance with Kolkata Knight Riders during the last season, be removed by his action. By not coming over to India he may further stoke the controversy.
