Reuters has compiled a list of cricketers who have the rare and special distinction of having scored at least one test century against each and every one of the test playing nations which was published in the cricket news recently. We bring you a special report. Three Australian players, three Sri Lankan players, two Indian players one South African player and one West Indian player have made this list of distinction, which signifies a true champions’ spirit that transcends the opposition and refuses to be intimidated by the calibre of the other team.
Adam Gilchrist (Australia): In a test career that spanned 96 matches, Gilchrist became one of the most beloved and influential of Aussie cricketers. He has 17 test centuries and an average of 47.6 from his 96 matches. Ricky Ponting (Australia): One of best Aussie batsmen of all time he has overcome personal adversity to play 128 tests, with 37 centuries at an average of 56.87, and still going strong! Steve Waugh (Australia): Arguably one of the greatest ever captains of the Aussie team, Waugh was a colossus in the Australian team whose career spanned nearly two decades. With an above 50 average, he played an amazing 168 test matches and scored 32 test centuries. Rahul Dravid (India): ‘The Wall’ of Indian cricket has had a career characterized as much by technical excellence as by sheer grit and tenacity. Dravid, with is 131 tests, has an enviably consistent test average of 52 and 26 test centuries. Sachin Tendulkar (India): The name that is synonymous with cricket like no other in India, India’s most beloved, prolific and talented batsman has been around for two decade and still has some way to go. Sachin is currently has the highest number of runs (12,429) in tests, the highest number of centuries, (41) and averages over 54 runs is tests. And by the way, he also has 42 test wickets under his belt. Gary Kirsten (South Africa): The current Indian national team coach, Kirsten was one of the South African greats of his time with 101 tests, 21 centuries and an average of 45 runs. Marvan Attapatu (Sri Lanka): With 90 tests, and a batting average of just under 40 runs, he made 16 international test centuries. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka): He will now be taking over the top spot in Sri Lankan cricket. He has 78 tests under his belt, with an impressive 54 run average and 17 test hundreds to his credit. Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka): The outgoing Sri Lankan captain has a 101 tests under his belt and has scored at an average of over 53 with 25 test centuries. Brian Lara (West Indies): Arguably one of the best batsmen of his time, Lara and Tendulkar are compared even now after Lara’s retirement. His 131 tests yielded 34 test centuries and an average of 52. He is the only batsman to have got 400 runs in one innings.
