It is indeed interesting that while there is not much talk about the postponement of the March fixture of Indian Cricket League the statements about it being a continuous entity are being issued from Australia earlier and New Zealand now. Is it the underlining about the fact the players have not lost hope, or is it that the payments to the players have not been released in full that they are talking in a cautious manner?
Chris Harris, the Black Cap legend has now come out and given a statement to the effect that the future of the Indian Cricket League (ICL) is not in jeopardy at all. He has been an integral part of this set up right since the inception of the tournament and has dispelled the view that the tournament is facing any financial difficulties what so ever. Some time back, the organizers of the Twenty20 league, which is on the tenterhooks of official recognition, cancelled its proposed World Series tournament which had been scheduled to start in March. The official reason for this cancellation was the India's tour to New Zealand which had precipitated the issue and had forced ICL bosses to reconsider their original dates. Now the tournament would be tentatively played in October. This postponement has however not ruffled the faith of the Harris in the future of this tournament. Harris one of New Zealand's greatest one-day cricketers and skipper of both the World XI and Hyderabad Heroes says he's not concerned. He commented that it has not happened for the first time that the dates have been rescheduled, it ahs already happened in the past, and is an issue which should not be a cause of concern. The tournaments have been played as per the planning; actual fixtures may have been changed here and there. On the issue of the payments to the foreign players, Harris also commented that it was also not much of an issue, as nearly all the foreign players were played in installment. In the past as well, there has been a slight delay in the payments and it should not set the cat among the pigeons. Being candid, enough he gave the statements that so far delay may have been there in receipt of the payments, but they have eventually been received. When it is coming from Harris then it should instill confidence in other players associated with the ICL.
