If you have a talented bunch of players in the domestic cricket then your future is safe. Therefore, the Pakistan Cricket Board has now decided to hire coaches for domestic teams as well. The coaches would be for various domestic teams in the country.
If you can’t beat them, join them. Pakistan Cricket Board also seems to be doing the same thing. Now it has also decided to appoint foreign coaches for domestic tournaments as well. One however wonders whether the experiments with foreign coach with the national team ahs played dividends. Pakistan has had so far two foreign coaches, Bob Woolmer, who died in mysterious circumstances and Geoff Lawson. Now Pakistan Cricket Board wishes to bring Australian trainers and other experts to improve the health of its domestic cricket. These experts from foreign country would help train curators, trainers, physiotherapists and coaches to improve the quality of domestic cricket. Pakistan Cricket Board has also initiated discussions with some geologists as well, so that they could come to Pakistan and train grounds men and curators on how to prepare proper cricket pitches. The need for the same was felt by the PCB as they don't have professionally trained curators or grounds men or a proper manual for preparing pitches in the board. It was one problem area that needed immediate attention. In the past, Pakistan had hired the services of ICC curator Andy Atkinson to help prepare pitches. In a related development Javed Miandad has decided to train Afghanistan’s cricket team. He may have been denied a free hand in Pakistan by the Pakistani cricket officials, but the veteran cricketer is in great demand in Afghanistan. Miandad has been invited by the authorities in Afghanistan to give tips to their cricketers. Miandad informed that he has been personally called by the Afghanistan’s Sports Minister who wanted him to tour their country. He did not have any reservations in traveling to Afghanistan and giving tips to their cricketers. He was hopeful that once he paid a visit to Afghanistan, there might be a distinct possibility that it may participate in the next World Cup scheduled for 2011. He expressed the hope that Afghanistan must have good cricketers, that’s why they have progressed so far. He hoped that his tour will benefit them in qualifying for the World Cup. Afghanistan will be playing the final round of World Cup qualifying matches from April 1 to 19, where it is pitted against teams like Kenya, the Netherlands, Bermuda, the UAE and Denmark. The top four teams of the qualifying matches will be participating in cricket’s mega event which will be co- hosted by India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Miandad is also scheduled to tour China as Cricket Ambassador next month.
