After being formally inducted into Congress, Mohd. Azharuddin made his first visit to the Congress head quarters. As is the wont of the politicians, he breezed from one meeting to another, the making of a real politician. His phone has been inundated with congratulatory phone calls from well-wishers, and a few moments he stole in between to call his friends. For a man who has always been measured in his interaction with the public would face a litmus test of his public speaking prowess.
Mohd. Azharuddin outlined his future in politics by informing that he would not be seen giving interviews as is the wont of new politicians. He has his own way to trudge the political career. He informed that he does not believe in giving prepared speeches but speaks from the heart what ever comes to his mind. It might be okay otherwise, but in politics it could have ramifications. He is open to public scrutiny, in his new innings. He said that he had decided t step into politics after giving it a serious consideration. It was not an impromptu decision. He was fully aware about the intricacies, and what he would have to face. On being asked about the past controversies, which might be raked by his political opponents, he retorted that if one’s intentions are good, and if all the parties’ intention is to do well for India, there would not be much of a problem. But it was easier said than done in Indian politics. It is evident that Azhar has left the controversies behind and he has learnt his lessons from that phase. The wilderness has ingrained in him a spirit of infinite patience, because Allah is always with those who’re patient – that’s the most important thing to remember when one is going through a tough phase, he opined. He also does not want to live on the crutches of the friends from the past and hold the view that one has to fight his battle alone and on winning, the credit is also of the individual. He would not leave cricket behind though, after his entry into politics. He holds the view that whatever he is today is because of cricket. Would it mean that BCCI may have a taste of the outreach of Azhar? He is also happy with the present Indian cricket team and has the view that Dhoni’s attitude as skipper is exactly what is needed from the captain.
