Rating 3.0/5 (2 votes)

The vibrant backdrop of Rajasthan which has been enticing and mesmerizing the foreigners as also the Indians would be revealed in its full glory when the inaugural match of the Indian Premier League 2009 would be held at Jaipur. It would be for the first time probably that such important event has been given to Jaipur as a host show, and it would not have been possible but for the fact that Rajasthan Royals is the winner and above all, Lalit Modi, the chairman of the IPL hails from Rajasthan. It would indeed signify arrival of Jaipur in a big way on the cricketing arena.

The din seems to be dying down. The controversies are being swept under the carpet and the preparation is on for initiating the gala event, the IPL 2 and what better place to do it than Jaipur, and what time to do it, April, when the vibrancy of colors would be at its zenith. Announcing this, Lalit Modi also informed that the defending champions Rajasthan Royals' would play two matches of their home matches in Ahmedabad. Modi revealed that there was eagerness on the part of the Rajasthan Royals to play two matches in Ahmedabad. Which are the matches that Rajasthan Royals would be playing, has not been decided, but two would be played at Ahmedabad and remaining matches will be played in Jaipur, informed Modi.

It indeed is a positive development as Modi had issued a veiled threat that the IPL may be forced to shift matches out of Jaipur if it perceives any opposition to the staging of matches there from the state or city administration.

Now that the Supreme Court has given a reprieve to Modi, he is of the view that the result of the elections for RCA, for which he is also a candidate, would not have any bearing on the start of the Indian Premier League 2009, which would roll out on April 10. Modi also tried to soften the atmosphere of acrimony that had arisen on account of the issues pertaining to RCA elections by saying that he had got feelers that the state government will provide all support to IPL.  Hotel bookings have picked up, and other related progresses are also cruising along, he added.

He is he hopeful of free and fair contests. He expressed the hope that all eligible units would exercise their franchise and nobody would be debarred from voting.
