Now that the Supreme Court of India has given the much needed reprieve, Lalit Modi the president of Rajasthan Cricket Association decided to file his nomination for the elections once again. After all, he has been single handedly responsible for ushering in a global period of RCA and when the court decision has also been awarded in his favor, why let the opportunity go to further tighten the grip on the association. The decision of the court could come as a facilitating tool in advocating the cause of reelection.
It would be one of the fiercest battles fought from in the history of cricket associations in India where the two mainstream political parties fought the proxy wars through the current office bearers and those who are at the helm of affairs in various district units in Rajasthan. RCA president Lalit Modi on Monday filed his nomination for the post of president at the residence of Justice NM Kasliwal, the retuning officer for the elections. The group owing allegiance to him has filed its nominations for 21 posts and Amin Pathan has filed his nomination for the post of secretary. Modi even expressed his desire to take the RCA to a new height on the eve of filing the nomination papers and expressed the desire to work with a new zeal for the cause of cricket in Rajasthan. He has the desire to foot map cricket to other cities of Rajasthan including Ajmer, Jodhpur, Kota and Udaipur. On the occasion of filing the nomination papers Modi also informed that the Indian Premiere League's (IPL) second edition would be organised in Jaipur as well. It would be a real razzmatazz and would be a fitting inauguration confirming with the tradition and culture of Rajasthan of extending hospitality. He also informed that he has been assured by the present state government that it would extend all the possible help to make this program a grand success. He however qualified his statement about the government support by making a distinction between the kind of support that is being extended by the present government and the kind of support that was extended to him by the previous government, underlining the fact that the previous government was more supportive for IPL. It would be for the first time that Supreme Court had to step into the elections of cricket association. Rajasthan indeed has been put up on the international map of cricket owing to the yeomen efforts made by Modi, whatever may be the pitfalls in the bargain.
