As per the tentative schedule announced by the authorities of the IPL, Ahmedabad would not get an opportunity to hold the matches of Indian Premier League . It would indeed have been a good marketing exercise, as Gujrat has quite a large industrial presence who would have been interested in participating as advertisers, apart from the loss that the fans would suffer of not being able to see the electrifying atmosphere of an IPL in the backdrop of a colorful and vibrant ambience of Gujrat.

For IPL season 2, the only new venue that has been added is Visakhapatnam as per the tentative schedule released by the league. There was anticipation that Rajasthan Royals, the defending champions, may play a few games in Ahmedabad. The schedule announced however does not include Ahmedabad. All the matches of Rajasthan Royals have been slotted for Jaipur, which will also host the inaugural game of the season. The tournament, which would set into motion from April 10 to May 24, will have total of 59 matches played over 45 days.

Deccan Chargers is the only team that has been given an opportunity to host matches outside its host city, i.e. the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. It would be hosting two games at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The six other franchises will play all their matches in one city: Bangalore Royal Challengers in Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils in Delhi, Kings XI Punjab in Mohali, Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata, Mumbai Indians in Mumbai and Chennai Super Kings in Chennai.

The IPL in the second season would begin with the opening match between Delhi Daredevils, semi-finalists last year, and the winners of the last year, Rajasthan Royals. From the statements issued by the CEO if Indian Premier League, Lalit Modi, buoyed as he is by the judgments given in his favour by various courts in India, he has promise the people of Jaipur an opening ceremony the likes of which would not have been witnessed in India ever before and it would also be accompanied by some truly world-class entertainment. Chennai Super Kings IPL chairman Lalit Modi said.

Though the itinerary has been released, it does not provide information about the grounds at which the games will be held. Venue of finals has been decided though, and it would be held in Mumbai. This decision is the prerogative of the winning team, and defending champions Rajasthan Royals chose Mumbai. There is however an element of uncertainty over the ground where the finals will be played.
