ICL Talks may have Failed, but Players Still Hopeful Print E-mail
Pitched By Cricket360 Observer

Even thought the talks between ICL and BCCI have not reached any conclusion, the players associated with the ICL are still hopeful that the ICL would continue to be conducted in the smooth manner.

Those who were associated as players in the T20 matches in the subcontinent, i.e. the players playing in the ICL are still hopeful that the deadlock in the mater would be resolved between BCCI and ICL and the ICL would regain its glory. This is inspite of the fact that the talks have failed in Johannesburg.

Kapil Dev, chairman of the ICL board, informed that they were moving forward in the matter. He, however, declined to provide further details, as he had to brief the owner of the league, Subhash Chandra.

ICL is doggedly pursuing to get the label of being a rebel league off from its back, a tag slapped on it by the BCCI, which has banned the ICL players from all forms of official cricket. Hope seems to be there as ICC has decided to mediate in the matter.

Opining on the matter, former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie, who represent the Ahmedabad Rockets, hoped that in a matter of time the issue would be resolved. He was also of the view that the ICC is desirous of a resolution, the ICL wants a resolution but it just seems BCCI is not very keen on a resolution. For him positive signs are that all the associated parties are talking and this provides him the confidence that some sort of understanding will be reached. The parties have met a few times now and the ICC executive board is scheduled to discuss the issue in April again.

Royal Bengal Tigers' Rohan Gavaskar is hurt that though they were playing the game according to the standards and norms they have been exorcised, and stigma of rebel has been slapped upon them. He however was also hopeful that BCCI would be able to see their point of view and provide them the recognition.

Deep Dasgupta, Gavaskar's Bengal teammate, was more forth coming and demanded that it was moral duty of the BCCI to honour them. After all it is the parent body and has been known to stand up for the rights of the player and there is no reason that they can't think of all cricketers as one, and should not distinguish between the players as official if they are playing in IPL and rebels if they are playing in the ICL.

Delhi Giants captain, Marvan Attapatu was hurt by BCCI's double standards of giving recognition to the Indian Premier League (IPL) while denying the ICL, which plays similar form of cricket.
