Pakistan to Tour Bangladesh Inspite of Mutiny Print E-mail

When you are fighting with your back against the wall, then every small gesture, which is in your favor, has to be reciprocated be it rain or sunshine. This seems to be the maxim, which is the operative part for the authorities in Pakistan, who control the affairs pertaining to cricket. Therefore they have decided that the team from Pakistan would tour to Bangladesh, though every new day is bringing about gory references about the mutiny of the Para-Military forces of Pakistan.

Pakistan plans to visit Bangladesh on a cricket tour starting later this week, inspite of a mutiny in the paramilitary headquarters, informed a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official on Monday. Pakistan is scheduled to land in Bangladesh on Saturday for a 16-day trip to play two Twenty20 Internationals and five one-day internationals against the hosts. According to the BCB Media Chief Jalal Yunus, so far they have not received any message to postpone or defer the tour. So the series will go as per its original schedule.

So far, at least 80 people have died, mostly army officers, in a two-day mutiny, which erupted at the paramilitary headquarters, causing a major security alert in Bangladesh. The media advisor informed that Bangladesh has already taken tight security measures for the Pakistan series and if it is deemed necessary it can be beefed up further as well, informed the board spokesman Yunus. The Pakistan series is a reciprocal trip as Bangladesh went on a tour last year to fill in after Australia cancelled a tour at the eleventh hour on security ground.

It would however be interesting to see whether in light of the recent attacks on the Sri Lankan team in Pakistan whether Pakistan would proceed ahead with the tour. This attack is indeed going to be a serious blot on the reputation and security of Pakistan as a cricket venue and also as a cricketing nation. Pakistan would not be in a position to keep on playing outside. The attacks would have serious repercussions on the preparation of World Cup 2011 as well.

The fun of cricket and the joy associated with it, in the sub continent would be seriously brought under the scanner and it may lead to empty stands as well. Even if the tour of Pakistan to Bangladesh continues how much crowd it would be able to pull off would be worth watching.
