The Knight Riders had a dream start to the season by winning their first two matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Deccan Chargers in the IPL. However, the team started experiencing failures and lost consecutive four matches after that.
The team managed to stage a comeback of sorts by winning next three matches. But their performance dipped again and lost next three matches. The Knight Riders ended their season on a winning note by defeating Kings XI Punjab on their home ground. The differences between Kolkata Knight Riders' owner Shah Rukh Khan and its skipper Sourav Ganguly have come out after the team's poor performance against the Rajasthan Royals, which cost them their chance to proceed in the top four teams. The problem virtually started with the entertainment tax that Shah Rukh Khan is paying for the matches being played at the Eden Gardens. Shah Rukh Khan wanted Ganguly to speak to West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and try and get it abolished. But Ganguly refused to do it. The differences aggravated during the auction where Sourav wanting more batsmen while the team management was more keen on bowlers. The problems further increased when coach John Buchanan was given more powers than Ganguly. Shah Rukh also announced that the coach would take all the decisions for the team next year onwards which upset Ganguly further. Both of them again clashed when Khan wanted his team to field first in the last game against Chennai while Ganguly preferred to bat first. Eventually, the Knight Riders lost by 3 runs on Duckworth-Lewis following a rain interruption. The SRK was further involved in the controversy when he was warned by the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit from entering the dressing room of the team when matches were in progress. Shahrukh Khan then said he would boycott the remaining matches of the IPL until the IPL authorities clarified the code of conduct. So the 'DADA' and the 'KING KHAN' were in the news more for their frictions rather then their team’s performances.
