Pietersen, Freddie may Fall Out from IPL after Attack on Lankans Print E-mail

Would the chickens roost in a different manner? After such a hype and hoopla associated with the price money that they got, Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff, highest paid players for IPL second season are having second thoughts whether they should honor the commitments after all, or not. They are still in the thinking mode about it, as informed by their respective agents. If it would happen, then it can have a cascading effect on the other players as well.

Agents of Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff are of the view that the firm participation of their players in the IPL is still not confirmed. They are seeking more details on the attacks that have numbed the sport fraternity in general numb in disbelief and the cricketing fraternity in a shocked silence all over the world.

But the agents also informed that that security had not been a major issue in discussions with their clients' respective IPL franchises before the attack in Lahore yesterday that killed six security guards and injured seven cricketers. However, the situation might undergo. They however clarified that they have not talked with their respective players, as they feel the impact of the event is so profound that the players may not be in the correct frame of mind to talk just now. The agents also informed that they also have not got in touch with the franchisees where both of these players are going to play.

The agents were cautious in their remarks and opined that it is not right time to jump the guns and give a statement that might have a serious ramification later on. They are waiting for the persons responsible for this mishap, and only then can they be in a position to arrive at any decision.

Bangalore's Royal Challengers would take on Chennai Super Kings, the franchise that secured Flintoff's services for $1.55m, the same as Pietersen's record-breaking fee. Up to now security has not been a subject for discussion, though he admits that may now change. This statement about deciding a further course of action based on solid information on the matter is a sober reaction to the occasion and it should be the stand of one and all associated with the IPL.

There are other players from England like Paul Collingwood, Owais Shah and Ravi Bopara, who are also contracted to play in the IPL. None of them have indicated that they would withdraw, but desire that the security concerns be addressed.
