When the chips are down then you get firing from all the sides. For Pakistan the question of being able to hold the World cup matches in itself is a distinct impossibility. But it should not mean that the future of World Cup in itself is jeopardy. India has stepped forward and has agreed to host the additional matches that were allocated to Pakistan, if the ICC decides that Pakistan is not a fit place to conduct these matches.
India is ready to fulfill its role of being the big brother and as one of the big host countries for the 2011 World Cup. In view of the political situation India has offered that it is ready to host the matches of the World Cup, if Pakistan is not in a position to do so. Board of Control informed the same for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Shashank Manohar. He also informed that the issue would be discussed in the ICC meeting at Nagpur and then a final decision would be taken. He also assured that additional matches would not be a problem. There is a very thin hope that Pakistan would be able to jointly stage the World Cup with India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka after gunmen attacked the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore on Tuesday, injuring six players and killing seven Pakistanis. Security has always been an issue in Pakistan for quite sometime and owing to these concerns in Pakistan, ICC had postponed and then moved the Champions Trophy out of Pakistan, now scheduled for later this year. In another twist to the issue Australia has thrown its hat in the ring and has offered to host the 2011 World Cup. Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland has said Australia is ready to host the 2011 World Cup. Even otherwise, officially, Australia is the standby hosts for the 2011 World Cup. He expressed the hope that the World Cup would be held in Asia, as Australia is already the host for the 2015 World Cup.
