One of the immediate reactions to the 3 March attacks on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore was the widespread feeling in international cricket that it may be impossible for the 2011 World cup to be co hosted by Pakistan. Now it seems that this is borne out by the recent cricket news that the 2011 World Cup Secretariat that is being established in Lahore could be relocated to India. This news comes even as the chief executive of the International Cricket Council (ICC) has said that Chris Broad, Simon Taufel and Steve Davis have exaggerated the danger of the attacks in Lahore.

Recent cricket news has suggested that the 2011 World Cup Secretariat that is being established in Lahore could be relocated to India in the wake of a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricketers on 3rd march.  According to media reports, the ICC is seriously considering this option of relocating the secretariat. The chances of Pakistan being one of the hosts for the next World Cup in 2011 are now considered to be but nil, seeing the security situation on the ground for cricket and cricket players. So what is now being examined is the possibility of shifting this secretariat to India who is one of the remaining three hosts along with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka

According to reports the preparations for the world cup were already behind schedule and the ICC had urged the respective boards to get a move on. Now it seems that the world cup aspirations of Pak at least seem further away than ever!

One however does wonder how this suggestion has gone down with the chief executive of the ICC Haroon Lorgat who recently asked umpires to be ‘more rational’ in response to the Lahore attacks. When Umpire Simon Taufel and match referee Chris Broad went on record to criticise the security arrangements in Lahore for the cricketers and match officials, Lorgat said that “some people had exaggerated the danger of the attacks in Lahore.”

This in turn prompted the Aussie umpire to seek a meeting with Lorgat and a statement that the attack was symptomatic of the way that ICC was being run currently. “It's got implications for how the ICC operates in future.” We need to look at the lessons outside of that incident because what happened in Lahore is a symptom of how cricket is managed and operated. The whole issue of how cricket is run needs to be looked at by the (ICC) board and the chief executives (of the 10 so-called Test playing countries)," said Taufel.

With divergent views being expressed in this matter we will have to see what is the decision finally taken in this matter of moving the secretariat from Pak.
