Although cricket news has it that Lakshmipathy Balaji has a chance at playing the first test match in Hamilton as part of their three match series in the current Indian tour of New Zealand, he has himself said that he is not overly anxious about this. He said that he will give it his best shot when he gets the chance to prove his worth for the team. Having been out of international cricket action for some years now, Balaji has done well to bounce back after serious injury.
There is a strong buzz in the cricket news that Lakshmipathy Balaji may be making a comeback into international test cricket after his long layoff due to a back injury. If so this would be a well deserved chance for the Indian pacer, since he has fought his way back into the Indian side by sheer hard work and determination and has made a mark in the Indian domestic cricket circuit as well. Balaji was reported in the cricket news as saying he was enjoying being back in the side after a long time. “Feeling good... I have worked very hard in the last two years and I am looking forward to the big series. It’s good to be back in the side and I am enjoying the team atmosphere,” he said. By all accounts the conditions and the pitches in New Zealand are among the chief stumbling blocks for any team that tours New Zealand, particularly any team from the subcontinent. About the pitches Balaji said, “On Asian wickets, you have to hit the deck hard because the ball doesn’t come on. The length is a little bit shorter in India. But here, the ball does a little bit if you bowl up. Even in the last one-day match in Auckland, the bowlers when they were bowling up were getting a little bit of movement off the wicket. It is very important to adjust the length here, bowl a bit fuller — not over-pitched but a length where the batsman will be in two minds.” Balaji’s place in the Indian team for tomorrow’s match is by no means certain, and he apparently has no indication yet. He will however be looking to make good any chance that he gets.
