The victory that New Zealand achieved in the last one-day between India and New Zealand has again pointed out towards the fact that the test series is indeed going to be a lively one and it would be a fast bowler’s paradise. In such a scenario it would be indeed interesting to see who is going to be the third pace bowler, or would India again rely on its time tested combination of playing with two spinners and two main strike bowlers. The options that Dhoni has would be a toss between Munaf Patel and Lakshmipathy Balaji.
While New Zealand is thinking of preparing fast and bouncy tracks for the ensuing test series between India and New Zealand, it may be a double-edged sword for them. It is owing to the fact that now the Indian team also has in its arsenal fast and swing bowlers who have the ability and the capability to turn the tables. For Dhoni it indeed would be a tough call. Whether he should pick up his Chennai Super Kings teammate Balaji or should he go along with Munaf Patel. Munaf Patel has more paces than Balaji and can really generate a blistering pace. An expectation has been built around him that he could clock 140 km/hr in the Kiwi tour, and if he were able to generate that much pace, it indeed would be a real treat to watch. Ishant Sharma has already shown in Australia what the favorable grounds can do, and what wonders can he work with the red cherry. If Munaf also fires in the same manner then it would indeed be a blister that the Kiwis would have to face. It is here that Balaji may score over him, as he being a swing bowler, and relying more on his ability to swing the bowl, and the conditions providing him favor, could get a chance ahead of Munaf Patel in the test matches. What could also go in his favour is his ability to bat and he could also provide the longevity to the tail, an area where Munaf Patel does not have much prowess when compared to Balaji.
