The Kiwis had a remarkable one-day series in England with a comfortable 3-1 victory over the English team. The New Zealand team showed a lot of character to come back in the last three games after loosing the first one and the second ODI being abandoned by the rain. The New Zealanders have shown great performance against the English team last season by beating 6-2 in last ten games away and home.
The first ODI was played at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street, on 15 June 2008. England batted first with the score of 307 for 5 in their 50 overs, thanks to an excellent innings (110 of 161 balls) by Kevin Pietersen, well made 64 by Paul Collingwood and a blazing innings of 49 of just 28 balls from Owais Shah. In reply New Zealand were bold out for only 193 and lost the game by 114 runs. The second ODI was played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on 18 June 2008. Due to rain interruption the match was reduced to 24 overs for each innings. England batted first and made 162 all out in 24 overs with Luke Wright, the top scorer who made 52. Paul Collinwood made well-made 37. In reply New Zealand had made very strong reply and almost certain to win the match when the rain again interrupted the play and eventually the match has been a called off. New Zealand made 127 for 2 in 19 overs with Brandon McCullum top scorer of 60 n.o. The third ODI was played at County Ground, Bristol, on 21 June 2008. New Zealand batted first and made 182 all out in their 50 overs. The top scorers were Elliott and Kyle Mills with 56 and 47 respectively. In reply England were bold out for 160 in 46.2 overs and New Zealand had won the match by 22 runs. The fourth ODI was played at Kennington Oval, London, on 25 June 2008. England batted first and made 245 all out in 49.4 overs. The top scorer was Owais Shah with 63. The other contributors were Ravi Bopara and Ian Bell with 58 and 46 respectively. In reply New Zealand won the match on the last ball of the last over in an excellent run chase. The top scorer was Scott Styris with well made 69 and Kyle Mills with very important 25 n.o. The fifth and the final ODI was played at Lord's, London, on 28 June 2008. New Zealand batted first and made 266 for 5 in 50 overs with 87 n.o from Scott Styris and a run ball 52 run cameo from Jacob Oram. In reply England were all out for 215 in 47.5 overs. The top scorer for England was Owais Shah who made 69 but no one really supported him much. The New Zealand had won the npower ODI series 3-1. The only International T20 played by England and New Zealand at Old Trafford, Manchester, on 13 June 2008. New Zealand batted first and made 123 for 9 in 20 overs. The top scorer was Rose Taylor who made 25. In reply England made 127 for 1 in just 17.3 overs to register a comfortable 9 wicket win. The top scorer was Ian bell with 60 n.o and Kevin Pietersen with 42 n.o. After completing the ODI series in England the New Zealand went to Scotland to play Associates Tri-Series (in Scotland), 2008. There were three teams New Zealand, Ireland and Scotland and they have to play one match against each other. The first match was held between New Zealand and Ireland at Mannofield Park, Aberdeen (neutral venue), on 1 July 2008. New Zealand batted first and made a huge score of 402 for 2 in the 50 overs. Brandon McCullum made 166 of 135 balls while Marshal made 161 of 141 balls in a 266 runs opening stand. The first time ever in ODI cricket the both openers were made 150+ scores in the same innings. In reply Ireland were al out for merely 112 in just 28.4 overs and New Zealand made a world record win of 290 runs in ODIs. The third match was played between New Zealand and Scotland at Mannofield Park, Aberdeen, on 3 July 2008. Scotland batted first and made only 101 all out in 33.2 overs. In reply New Zealand made 102 for 2 in just 14.4 overs and won the match with over 200 balls to spare and won the match by 8 wickets.
