As the two alternative venues for the second edition of the Indian Premier League are being considered, England is emerging as a strong possibility to hold the high profile international cricket tournament. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has indicated its willingness to host the tournament, with ECB Chairman Giles Clarke saying that they would be “delighted” to help the BCCI.
According to breaking cricket news there is now one more reason why it will be England and not South Africa that will be hosting the T20 cricket tournament of the IPL this year: The ECB has expressed its willingness to do so, according to reports in the cricket news. “We have a very good relationship with the BCCI if they need any help on matters. We normally talk to them a great deal and we would be delighted to help again," ECB chairman Giles Clark was reported as having said. Meanwhile President of the International Cricket Council (ICC) David Morgan has expressed his ‘surprise’ at the IPL having been moved out of India. He also felt that it was rather short notice for any other country to be able to get things organised soon enough to be able to stage the tournament. Reactions to the IPL being shifted out of India are trickling in from different quarters with Indian seamer Zaheer Khan indicating his displeasure with the idea because he fears for the future of cricket in India. Zaheer was quoted in the cricket news as having said that this move was a bad omen for cricket in Asia and that it would cause doubt in the minds of people who doubt the ability of the Asian countries to be able to host the next world cup. "It is bad news for Asian cricket. The shifting of the IPL outside India will send wrong signals to the rest of the world that this region is not safe to host international cricket,” he said. He indicated that this is a problem that all cricket playing nations in Asia faced, particularly Pakistan. "Pakistan is the biggest victim of this problem. But now India has also been affected. Unless we come out with concrete steps, things will get worse for us and there is a big possibility that we might also lose the hosting rights for the next World Cup," he was quoted in the cricket news as having said.
