Sourav Ganguly was reported in the cricket news as expressing his ‘disappointment’ at the fact that the Indian Premier League’s second edition will be held outside India this year. While he said that this was a sensitive issue that he would not like to comment on, he did go on to say that professional players would not have any problem adjusting to different conditions and should be able to deliver their best.
The Prince of Calcutta as Geoffrey Boycott dubbed Sourav Ganguly former captain of the Indian international cricket team and present captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders IPL team is disappointed that the IPL is moving out of India. “I know Kolkatans won’t be able to see us playing at home, but what to do?” he was quoted as having said in the cricket news. He demurred from saying more about the IPL which is a sensitive issue. “I wouldn’t like to comment. It is sensitive issue. The decisions have been taken by the powers that be. I am just a player and will have to play wherever I am asked to,” he said. He did not however envisage any problems with adjusting to the conditions abroad since as he says, “It shouldn’t be a problem. As professional players, we have to adjust to different conditions and give our best.” According to one cricket rumour, the captaincy of the KKR team is an area of discussion these days, with the name of Kiwi batsman Brendon McCullum emerging as a strong contender. Earlier KKR director of Cricket operations John Buchanan was quoted in the cricket news as saying “We are deciding on the leadership issues.” There has however been no confirmation of this rumour as actual cricket news and the KKR management has neither ratified nor denied this. Reportedly McCullum played only four matches for KKR last year, but his being a contender for the top job may have something to do with the fact that he is in top T20 form right now and is also available for the entire duration of the IPL this year. The KKR team will have to play their matches abroad this year and not have the home crowd advantage in any case, so perhaps it will not matter so much whether it is Dada at the helm of the KKR ship or someone else?
