How so ever he might try; controversies are not ready to get off Andrew Symonds back. Controversy continues to manifest in one form or the other and it has developed into a regular feature. There is hardly a fortnight gone by, when Symmo does not get mired in a controversy. Each of the controversies further drifts him away from his chances of making a come back in the Australian squad.
Andrew Symonds indeed would be one tormented soul, who is jumping from one controversy to another on a regular basis. Most of them are getting associated with his extreme drinking habits. The recent incident again is a manifestation of the same streak. It has been reported that he was shown the door in a Brisbane bar after he went out of control. (Read the Cricket360 related article "Symmo sent to Rehab due to drinking habits") As per the reports, Symonds had come to the bar to celebrate the end of the Sheffield Season and he over did the celebration. As a result he was asked to leave the bar. The cause of provocation was breaking of a glass, though it was an accident, but the authorities did not want to take any chance, as the man involved in the fracas was Symonds. He was also reported to be stumbling out of control, when he was calling his friends. Symonds is already undergoing a session of counselling and rehabilitation after returning to the game last month following a knee surgery. He attained notoriety for the 'gone fishing" saga, but he was given an opportunity to play in the Aussie squad. Thereafter he played five Test matches in a row, before injury forced him out of the squad. In his recovery phase, he abused New Zealand wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum in a radio interview under the influence of alcohol and had to cough up a 4000 dollar fine. (Read the Cricket360 related article "Symonds' McCullum Episode on Radio") The behavioral aberration that he is displaying seems to be a hangover of the monkey gate effect and he has literally gone into a time warp, while whole of the cricketing world has moved on from there. Until and unless he does so, it would indeed be a difficult proposition for him to make a come back into the Aussie squad.
