If there is any constant in the second season of the Indian Premier League, it is the change in as diverse forms as can be visualized on a regular basis. Now that a decision has been made to change the venue, it has created another headache for the franchises. They have to scout around and prepare new dresses for their players. The new set of clothing have to be ordered in a jiffy as there is hardly much time left to procure them.
The garment manufacturers in the country must be happy with the change in the IPL venue. Facing an onslaught of cancellation of orders, the change in the venue of IPL could bring them some relief as new placement of orders would mean new production. For them therefore, it indeed would be manna from the heaven. The franchises however would not be amused, as it is an additional headache that they have to factor in, while preparing their teams for the IPL in South Africa. The earlier clothing that were ordered were done keeping in view the Indian summer, characterized by sweltering humid April and May in India. But in South Africa the weather would be cold and the players would have to be provided additional protection. The saving grace in this scenario is that all the teams have sponsors for garments so arranging for finance would not be a concern for the franchisees, but for the sponsors it would be an additional expenditure and it would eat into their margins. The franchisees are however aware that they are running against the time for getting the new set of clothes as two weeks would be the minimum time required getting a new jersey. But this is where the prowess of Indian garment manufacturers could come into play, and in fact they could use it as a USP to market their future business propositions. The matches are finally to be played out in South Africa and it would have an effect on the bating performance as the batsmen would be under lots of padding which would not allow them to have natural free arm movements, otherwise possible in India. Bowlers in such a scenario could have the field day, and the second season of IPL could turn out to be the season of the bowlers. For the franchises change of venue would mean an inventory of jerseys that would not be of any use, but they could auction it and make revenue out of it, as he fans in India would be eager to lap them up.
