The 34-year-old dashing right-handed opener of South Africa, Herschelle Gibbs is not included in the test squad for the tour of England where SA will play four tests and five one-day fixtures.

It is most surprising decision of the selectors as Gibbs is one of the best players South Africa have ever had. Gibbs last played a Test in January 2008 against West Indies but did not included in the Test series against Bangladesh and India. Though he played the ODI series in Bangladesh.

After being ignored for the test series against England, Gibbs is thinking about the retirement from the international cricket. He is thinking that he will not get the chance for even one-day series against England. He has a string reason for believing that. He said to the BBC during the interview that when he asked the coach about the ignorance of him in the squad, the coach had told him that he is preserved as a first reserve for South Africa if anyone gets injured! Can you believe that the player like Gibbs is considered as a first reserve player by the South African cricket board! That tells what the story is all about and why one of the fittest players in world cricket is thinking about the retirement when he can easily play the game for another 4-5 years.

Gibbs is playing for English county Glamorgan in the T20 tournament in England. He feels that the good performance in the county cricket may be his last chance for selection in the South African team. He is not in the test side for quite a while and he is not confident for a comeback in the ODI team either. The selectors have leaved much choice for him but to retire from international cricket.
