Recent cricket news reports suggest that there is an American T20 Premier League on the cards. According to recent cricket headlines, the American Sports And Entertainment Group Inc. has in the pipeline plans for a six-team American Premier League, proposed to be held in October on a converted baseball field in Staten Island, NYC. In what appears to be a bid to get a share of the international cricket pie, Inzamam and seven other members of the ICL franchise Lahore Badshahs have been approached by Jay Mir president and CEO of the organisation.
Now it appears there is one more inimical threat being posed to the beleaguered Indian Cricket league and that is the new American Premier League. If ICL players are wondering what to do after being barred from playing for their country’s national side and also not knowing when the next ICL tournament is to be held, it would see they have a new option according to recent cricket news. (Read Cricket360 related article on rumour of "Is Sarwan also joining the Indian Cricket League?") Jay Mir, CEO of the American Sports And Entertainment Group Inc, has reportedly approached former Pak captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and as many as 7 other players to participate in the American Premier league. The APL will have 6 teams and which will be playing cricket in a converted baseball stadium it is proposed. Other probables for the APL are names like Imran Nazir, Imran Farhat and Mohammad Asif. It is thought that the reason ICL players are being approached is because they are not centrally contracted to their home boards and would not be barred from being signed on by the APL. "If someone is playing for Pakistan then I don't know what the position of the player is in his contract with the PCB, but for other players it is free to sign with anyone," said Inzamam. "It is not an official tournament because it is not ICC-recommended. If there is a contracted player, they may have a problem, but ICL players should be free to sign." What is thought will bring a cricket revolution in the US; the APL will feature a World XI, and a West Indian XI which will have former Windies captain Richie Richardson as coach and recruiter. "It is a cricket revolution in America. The venue is an absolute fit for the historic nature of this event. It has a capacity of approximately 10,000 spectators and has state-of-the-art facilities, and every spectator can view the beautiful Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty and the Hudson River from their seat," Mir was reported as having said in the cricket news.
