King Khan has not taken at all kindly to batting legend Sunil Gavaskar’s comment that John Buchanan, coach of the KKR team of the IPL is a “failed former cricketer making a living telling international players to do what he couldn't do". He did not mince his words as he indicated that Gavaskar was not familiar with the T20 format and that and that if anyone else wanted to implement their theories they should buy a team themselves. Earlier Gavaskar had opined in his column that John Buchanan was taking advantage of the team owners.
When the coach of the Indian Premier League team the Kolkata Knight Riders, John Buchanan first mooted the idea of the captaincy of the team being rotated between 4 captains, his radical new theory had stirred a hornet’s nest of cricket controversies. Many in international cricket have roundly criticised the theory which has cause some obvious questions to be raised in the cricket news. SRK seems to have taken his remarks about Buchanan fairly personally and has lashed out at Gavaskar insinuating that Gavaskar had no business commenting about a format he had no experience of an about a team that he did not own. “…this is an era where Mr. Gavaskar has not indulged in… This is a new format that's being tried out. Please give it some breathing space. I am the owner of the team, I bought it. If he wants to implement something, let him buy a team." Shah Rukh Khan dismissed the suggestion that John Buchanan was indulging in a little ‘Divide and Rule’ with his new theory saying this was a policy of the British and Buchanan was an Australian! He was in no mood to be charitable as he went on to point out that another IPL team; the Kings XI Punjab was also employing the multiple captain theory which was being overlooked. "Even the Kings XI Punjab had multiple skippers but that didn't create any controversy as that was left unsaid... Yuvraj being the skipper, it was Sangakkara who made the field placements last season," he said. In spite of the various criticisms being heaped on the KKR coach, SRK made it clear that he would back his coach and that he would do what is best for the team!
