The recently concluded cricket series where the Indian team toured New Zealand was marked by great cricket and perhaps even greater cordiality. Both, the players as well as the spectators and cricket fans of the host country made the Indian visitors feel welcome and highly appreciated. If former Kiwi all rounder and skipper Richard Hadlee ranked Sachin Tendulkar as the best batsman ever, then current Kiwi captain, Daniel Vettori has said that this current Indian team is the best ever.

Sir Richard Hadlee who has recently been inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame recently was quoted in the cricket news as saying that according to him, the Indian Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar is the best batsman ever and rated him even higher than batting legend Don Bradman. For his part Tendulkar thought this was a rare honour especially coming from a source such as Hadlee who was himself an exceptional player of his time.

Expressing his happiness at the compliment paid to him, Tendulkar said, “Nobody has ever said that before. I am happy and satisfied. This comes as a pleasant surprise and it comes from a personality whose credentials cannot be questioned. I am happy that I played with him on my first tour to New Zealand in 1989.”

Tendulkar said that he recalled his first encounter with the Kiwi player who made his debut the same year that Tendulkar was born.  “I also cherish that memory. I still remember one moment after the Napier Test. He was giving an interview on television in which I found he made his debut in 1973. I was born in the same year, which means when he made his debut in Tests, I was just born. Yet I got the opportunity to play against him,” he said.

That this Indian tour of New Zealand has been exceptionally cordial is indisputable. Not only have the players shown a great deal of camaraderie marked by an absence of any hostility or acrimonious episodes, the hosts have been gracious and appreciative of their visitor’s abilities. Earlier Vettori had rated Tendulkar as the best batsman in the world above Ricky Ponting and Brian Lara.

Recently the Kiwi skipper Daniel Vettori, went on record in the cricket news to say that this Indian cricket team was the best ever. According to him this was a confident side that had been able to win in different conditions Tendulkar Mania on Kiwi-Land!which had made a lot of difference. Saying that this Indian team is among the top ones in the world, Vettori thought it was an interesting contest to see who would be the at the top.

“This side now has a lot of experience and is without doubt one of the best in the world. We have played most of the best teams, including Australia, over the last couple of years and this Indian team ranks among them. The race for the top team in the world is now tied in a three-way contest. I have no doubt in my mind that Australia, India and South Africa are among these three teams. They continue to be involved in an interesting contest to claim the top spot in the world. It’s pretty close to call at the moment,” he was quoted as having said in the cricket news.
