Though he may not have found place in the second season of the Indian Premier League with the Kolkata Knight Riders, Shoaib Akhtar has managed to find a place in the 15 ember squad that has been declared by the Pakistan Cricket Board. He had to undergo a three day fitness test before he was selected in the Pakistani squad. The Chief Selector of Pakistan Cricket Team, Abdul Qadir informed that the test of endurance that Shoaib underwent was the primary reason why he was included in the Pakistan squad. It is worth while to remind that Shoaib has only played 2 ODI's during the last 16 months.
In another move, taken by the PCB, it has announced a preliminary squad of 20 members for the T20 World Cup to be played in England, but in this squad Abdul Razzaq, Rana Naved and Imran Nazir do not find a place. It is primarily owing to their involvement in the Indian Cricket League. Abdul Qadir also conceded the trio can only be considered for selection for T20 World Cup in June if they were cleared by the PCB and the ICC. Though these three players have been cleared by the Sindh High Court to play in the domestic circuit in Pakistan but they are still banned from representing Pakistan. ICL has still not been recognized as the tournament that has the endorsement of the International Cricket Council. Meanwhile the controversies still continue to dog the PCB and are not helping the cause of cricket in Pakistan. It has been learnt that national team players, who took part in last November's Hong Kong Super Sixes tournament, are yet to get their dues from the board. It has been gathered that though the team won a prize purse of $18000, the money has still not been distributed among the players. PCB has informed that owing to the financial dealings of the previous regime, the PCB is facing a financial crunch and therefore would take sometime to set the house in order. After West Indies it is another board that is having financial problems, and it has to take rear guard action fast or it may also have to face the rebellion. The Provisional Squad: Younis Khan (captain), Msibah-ul-Haq, Salman Butt, Nasir Jamshed, Shoaib Malik, Khalid Latif, Shahzeb Hasan, Umar Amin, Ahmed Shahzad, Faisal Iqbal, Fawad Alam, Shahid Afridi, Sohail Tanvir, Yasir Arafat, Kamran Younis, Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul, Rao Iftikhar, Aizaz Cheema, Mohammad Aamir, Wahab Riaz, Imran Ali, Abdul Rehman, Danish Kaneria, Yasir Shah, Kamran Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed, Abdul Razzaq, Rana Naveed, Imran Nazir.
