While the Pakistan Cricket Board has still not mustered the courage to bring in the players of its country who had associated with the Indian Cricket League, the rebel League, New Zealand Cricket Board is warming up to it. It has been learnt that the New Zealand Cricket is readying itself to welcome back the players of New Zealand who were playing in the ICL. This thought has kindled the sprit of revival in Shane Bond, the fear some fast bowler who had created havoc in all the opposition teams against which he played, is contemplating to give his test career another shot.
The recent test series between India and New Zealand where India has scored a victory over New Zealand after more than 40 years, has been characterized by the potency of the pace attack of the Indian squad and lack of edge in the Kiwi squad. Absence of Shane Bond at the top of the order meant that the Kiwi squad did not have the same fire power as the Indian squad comprising Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma and Munaf Patel. May be, this could be the reason which would precipitate the view of the Cricket New Zealand to bring back the players who played in the ICL, back into he Kiwi squad. While Bond has started working hard towards his fitness to return to first class cricket for Canterbury next season, he also holds the view that he would make up his mind of making a comeback only after ICL takes a view not to honor the contract that it had signed with him. He is firm in his conviction that he would not walk away first. If the ICL does not fulfill its contract, then Bond would contemplate making another career move otherwise he would fulfill his commitments with the ICL, opined Bond. Bond still has not veneered around to the move that he can play with New Zealand as he had taken a vow not to play for the Kiwis after he was not considered for selection due to his joining the ICL. Even if Bond decides to play for the Black Caps again, he is conscious about the fact that it would be an uphill task to regain his place in the squad, which will play in the Twenty20 World Championship in June before touring Sri Lanka in August. Bond can take some heart from the fact that in the recently held test series between India and New Zealand the Cricket New Zealand did not succumb to the dictate of BCCI of not allowing players associated with the ICL to do commentating in the second test match. It has been learnt that the issue of officially recognizing the ICL will be discussed when the ICC meets in Dubai later this month.
