That all is well in the Indian Cricket Team dressing room looks like a bubble that is soon set to burst what with rumors of a widening rift between Team Captain M.S.Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh over issues of team leadership.
Although rumblings had been doing the rounds in cricket news circles since a while, suddenly the murmurs of the rumor assumed the proportions of a rising crescendo that suggested that captaincy of the Indian Cricket Team had become the bone of contention between Yuvraj Singh and M.S.Dhoni. There have been reports that Yuvraj has begun to eye the captaincy of the Indian Cricket Team with renewed interest and that this fact has led to a rift between the current Captain and Yuvraj Singh. Cricket 360 reports that there is more to Yuvraj Singh’s statement when he voices the thought that Dhoni in spite of being young in years has the backing of the team. At the same time Yuvraj Singh rubbishes talks of a rift saying that it is mere conjecture on part of the media. Yuvraj says, "Dhoni is very young. He came in 3-4 years after I had started playing and he is captaining the Indian Cricket Team and as a youngster he needs the support of the team and the team likes him a lot. He is a very cool headed person which is very necessary for a captain." In the same breath he pointed to the fact that Dhoni has played 106 One Day Internationals to 204 of his, and 29 tests to 23 of his, hinting at the Captain’s comparative inexperience. Yuvraj says he is not averse to carrying the responsibility of captaining the Team India but that the game of cricket is of paramount importance. Making the right noises, Yuvraj Singh says, "It is an honor to captain the Indian Cricket Team, I also wish to be the captain but the most important thing is to do what is good for the team and what are your goals as a team. I think, what the team wants is more important than personal desires," he explained. M.S. Dhoni, as is characteristic of him is a man of few words and prefers to allow his bat to do the talking for him and live scoreboards across the arena of World Cricket have their own story to tell. Celebrities increasingly conform to the saying, ‘give the dog a bad name and hang it,’ especially where media is concerned. Cricket and its players have proved to be no exception. Cricket360 reports that Yuvraj has also leveled the charge that the so called rift is a figment of imagination of the media and baseless. As an afterthought one does wonder if the Indian Premier League (IPL) has brought these issues among players under sharper focus and is responsible for the ‘friends turned foes’ equation? One does hope that the memories of the World Cup stay alive longer and that the success story be often repeated on live scoreboards. Nevertheless, Rumors thrive on cricketing grounds and are harvested happily by the media much to the glee of a cricket crazy populace whose heart beats for the Indian Cricket Team, ears yearn for tiniest scrap of information and eyes scan cricket news columns with feverish excitement.
