Cricket legend Brian Lara, is of the view that cricket is a dying sport and that it is the Twenty20 format of the game that will give it a new lease in life by reviving spectator interest in it. He was quoted in the cricket news as advising batsmen to develop and refine their strokes; try to play attractive shots rather than just trying to whack the ball out of the ground. Lara, himself known as a stylish batsman, urges youngsters to add some ‘artistry’ to their batting.
While others decry the changes brought about by the T20 format, saying that it is killing cricket as we know it, former West Indian batsman Brian Lara had the contrary view that T20 was like a savior in international cricket. Brian Lara, one of the all time greats of international cricket has come out in support of T20 cricket, saying that it will be the saviour of cricket. While others decry the changes brought about by the T20 format, saying that it is killing cricket as we know it, former West Indian batsman Brian Lara had the contrary view that T20 was like a savior in international cricket. Lara however is aware that it is the spectator, both in the stadium as well as viewing the game on TV that make a game and he was therefore were welcoming of the T20 game. What did however displease the batting great was the fact that the T20 format did not make for very attractive cricket; more of the ‘Wham – bam – thank – you – ma’am’ kind of shots without any finesse. "I hope that we do see a little bit of artistry because right now it's a lot of ‘Wham – bam – thank – you – ma’am’. I believe that at some point in time people are going to understand that there are tactical ways of playing it and then you are going to see the true talent come out," he was quoted as having said in the cricket news.
