Cricket360 asked Shah Rukh Khan whether KKR was missing Ricky Ponting of whether Ponting was missing IPL; to which SRK replied that it was KKR missing Ponting. Khan, when asked if he was surprised at people’s critical reaction to John Buchanan’s multiple captain theory, he replied in the negative; said he was in a business where every new thing was met with extreme reactions, either positive or negative.
According to Shah Rukh Khan, KKR is missing Ponting who “is dying to be here (in South Africa). He is an essential, essential part of our team and hopefully we should get a clarification on that. At this point we’ve heard he is resting… and we’ll get clarity in a day or two,” said SRK. “If is not well or wants to take time off, then we will allow him that,” he clarified however. SRK also fielded the inevitable questions about John Buchanan and his Rotating Captain theory. One media person asked him who is the captain of KKR team and quick as a shot he riposted, “I am!” When he was asked if he was surprised at the criticism received by the theory even before it was put into practice, he said he was not surprised. “The whole team set up, that’s the cricket part, they are amazingly gifted guys, organised, experienced,” and he added that though he had questions, he did not have the right to question. “I don’t tell them how to play cricket and of they have taken a decision, we’ll try it out... give it a shot” he said and added that there was also the traditional way to fall back on. On the other hand it may be that others will ask his team for their prospectus and what it was that they did it works out. So it was SRK, ever the diplomatic showman, who chose his words carefully to explain his position as he fielded questions from the media at a press conference covered by your very own cricket360.com in South Africa. Though he is holding his cards close to his chest at this time, what remains to be seen if we will indeed see Ponting this year at the IPL or if Buchanan’s theory is a dud or a winner? Like they say, time will tell…
