Review of the DLF-IPL Twenty20 match between Deccan Chargers and Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday in Cape Town. Chargers scored an emphatic victory over the Knight Riders as they easily sailed to an 8-wicket victory with 41 balls to spare. Brad Hodge was the only saving grace for Kolkata who took his team to 102 with his 31. RP Singh’s lethal 4 for 22 did the damage as Herschelle Gibbs and Rohit Sharma brought victory for the Chargers.

Deccan Chargers scored a thumping victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in the DLF-IPL tie in Cape Town today as RP Singh ripped through the Knight Riders to steer his team to an easy 8-wicket victory.

Singh clinched 4 wickets for just 22 runs and was the prime factor limiting the Knight Riders from reaching a respectable total. Openers Brendon McCullum (1) and Chris Gayle (10) along with tail-enders Ishant Sharma (9) and Ashok Dinda (2) fell prey to the Indian seamer. He got able support from fellow Indian Pragyan Ojha and Kiwi Scott Styris who bagged two wickets each and restricted Kolkata to a poor 102.

Brad Hodge put up the only resistance from Kolkata’s side as he scored 31. The rest of the team gave some good bowling practice to the Chargers as they conveniently gave their wickets away.

The Knight Riders set off to a super-shaky start as they lost the openers before the score on board was 2. Brendon McCullum was caught off keeper Adam Gilchrist off a RP Singh delivery on the first ball of the second over. For the record, McCullum gave a grand inauguration to the last season when he slammed 158 in the opening match. In RP’s next over, Chris Gayle top-edged the same bowler to Harmeet Singh running in from long-off, before the catcher turned wicket-taker when he drew a thick edge from Sourav Ganguly to VVS Laxman at first slip.

Deccan makes KKR-"Kolkata Kite Runners"The Domino theory proved true one more time as the rest of the wickets toppled helplessly after that. The gloom on Shahrukh Khan’s face sitting in the VIP stands clearly reflected the sad state of the team as Chargers looked set to win the game. So even as they lost two wickets in succession, Herschelle Gibbs and Rohit Sharma did their job well of taking the team to victory. 11 boundaries together, Gibbs and Sharma took Chargers home with 5.5 overs to go.

RP Singh was adjudged the Man of the Match for his superb spell with ball. Deccan Chargers are now 2 points up in the points tally as Kolkata Knight Riders are on zero after this match.
