Last year, the opening match of the 1st season between Kolkata Knight Riders and Bangalore Royal Challengers at Bangalore racked up a rating of 4.3 along the same statistics. Even the second match of between the Rajasthan Royals and the Bangalore Royal challengers Season 2 could not match up to last year’s rating, even though it was a touch better than the first match with 3.8. The ratings are holistic ratings taking two important aspects under consideration: the number of television viewers homed in on the match, as well as the temporal factor, the amount of time they spend watching the match.
However records reveal that a much higher number of people tuned in to the television channel to watch the match this year than they had last year: the Mumbai Indians/Chennai Super Kings match recorded a viewership of seven million, as opposed to the 5.6 million last year. The second match between
Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers recorded a much higher viewership of 8.1 million. These statistics are all determined by 6 metros across India. However, the CEO of aMap Amit Verma says that "Even though larger number of viewers watched the first two matches, curiosity did not sustain as much as last year."
In the interim, restaurants across the city did claim an increase in the number of customers, but they believe that once the series builds an impetus, the footfalls and revenues will increase briskly. However revenues still stay down for multiplexes, mostly due to the row between film producers and multiplex owners and the resulting strike.
