Kolkata Knight Riders leave Kings XI to a 2 Game Loss Print E-mail
Pitched By Sharad Chikara
Tuesday, 21 April 2009

Rating 5.0/5 (1 vote)

Kolkata Knight Riders has won the match against the Kings XI Punjab by the D/L method. Kings XI Punjab have now been unlucky on two occasions. Brian McCullum won the toss and decided to field. The wonderful atmosphere and lively setting makes it a special experience at the Sahara stadium in Durban.

Karan Goel and Ravi Bopara opened the innings for Kings XI. The first to get out was Karan Goel as he knicks one to Gayle in the slips. Not an easy one to catch but Gayle makes it look so simple.

In the fifth over, the runs started to pour in for Kings XI when Irfan hit Ishant Sharma 13 runs including a four and six. At the end of 5 overs, Kings XI has scored 36 runs with an average of just over 7.

Ganguly brings himself over and manages to get two wickets getting Irfan out right on the boundary which initially seemed like a six. And then fourth ball Bopara is caught behind by McCullum off Ganguly again.

Right after the strategy break, some passing showers came by that halted the play by a few minutes. Ganguly goes for 14 runs including a six and four Sangakkara. Gayle also goes for 14 runs including 5 byes off the first ball. Yuvraj and Sangakkara got to a 50 run partnership off 38 balls. Kings XI got to the 100 target in just 12 overs scoring at an average of 8.3 an over.

After 15 hours, Kings were 117 for the loss of 3 wickets. Yuvraj scored 38 runs off 27 balls before getting out by lofting a catch to Yashpal Singh at deep mid wicket off the bowling of Henriques.

Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle open the innings for KKR and are pretty contained for the first 2 overs. In the third over, Chris Gayle hits Pathan for a six and then Abdullah is hit for 2 sixes in the fourth over. But the real damage is done in the fifth over when Gayle hits Pathan for 2 fours and a six and Pathan ends up conceding 17 runs off his fifth over.

Yuvraj brings on Malik who gets hammered for a six and a four by McCullum before getting McCullum caught behind by Sangakkara. Also when Chris Gayle was gaining momentum, the rains came on and at first it seemed like passing showers but then it just went worse. IPL has been a bit out of luck as far as the rains are concerned. Four days worth of games have been played in IPL Season 2 and all four have rain interruptions. Although it is too early to draw comparisons with England weather but let us hope that there not too many rain interruptions going forward.

KKR, Please fire Boka-man and let us get down to the business of playing
cricket.

The writer of the article shows obvious bias. Sir, you do not need
to show your class by being petty. Have a big heart and appreciate when someone
plays well, whoever he may be.

comments like "ganguly brings himself over".is satirical when everybody
knows McCullum is the captain....Further comments like "manages to get 2
wickets".....are idiotic.........everybody knows d importance of those
wickets...

also.the writer is fully biased against Ganguly when he writes
"Ganguly struggle to lead the team to victory..."..during the match
versus rajasthan royals

dont write such idiotic posts bcoz everybody knows that
ganguly's innings was much better cricket than yusuf pathan..and also being
rated as one of the best innings...he had sinlehandedly led the team to the
bring of victory..

This site is biased..reports and frenzied support are two different things..when
ganguly does something worthwhile, its treated satirically,in contrast to other
teams who r given due respect..well,,this shows how idiotic u r..whoever writes
these posts
