When you look at the current New Zealand Cricket Team, you think that it is one of the best ODI Cricket sides in the world. And yet this cricket team is not in the top team’s list.
The Black Cats have some really talented players like Brandon McCullum, Daniel Vettori, Shane Bond, Scott Styris, Jacob Oram, Darryl Tuffy, etc. and still they are not in the best sides tally. The reason behind that is the injuries these players had because of their packed cricket schedules during the whole year. The problem of injuries is not new to the world cricket. But because of too much cricket being played all around the world between international cricket teams, the injuries to the players have increased immensely. When you look in to the past New Zealand has lost many talented players. The best example is Chris Cairns. Cairns had the potential of being one of the best all-rounders of all time and he was the best all-rounder in the world for some time. But then he had many injuries during his cricketing career. So he had to wind up his career a lot earlier then one can anticipate. The other example is New Zealand fast bowler Dion Nash. Nash had the capabilities of being an excellent all-rounder for New Zealand. But due to injuries throughout his career, he really hadn’t confirmed his place in to the New Zealand side. The recent Cricketers of New Zealand are facing the same problem. Shane Bond, potentially one of the fastest bowlers in the world cricket along with Shoiab Akhtar of Pakistan and Brett Lee of Australia, has a cricketing career with so many injuries hurting his rhythm as a fast bowler. Kyle Mills is another recent fast bowler of New Zealand who has suffered due to injuries. Darryl Tuffy had started his international career with Jacob Oram for New Zealand. But Tuffy suffered a lot more than Oram due to injuries. So, all these players were in and out of the New Zealand squad, playing some sort of “Hide and Seek”. Recent players like Daniel Vettori, Scott Styris and Brandon McCullum have recently been injured in the series against England. When you have your best players injured you cannot perform as a team. And that’s the main reason why the New Zealand has not been able to perform as per their potential as a team.
