Rain seems to be dogging the footsteps of Viru’s team. Their first game was rain curtailed and then their session at the nets was also washed out. They won their game on Sunday against the Kings XI Punjab by a thumping 10 wickets, but today will be the real test for them. There is a fair smattering of international cricket fire power is the Delhi team:
There is of course Sehwag himself known as the most dangerous batsman in the world today; there is Gautam Gambhir his fellow opener in international cricket when representing India. These two were enough to get to the requisite total to roundly defeat the Mohali team by ten wickets in their first match. Delhi has a lot more going for it than just Jai and Viru (we mean Sehwag and Gambhir).
There is David Warner, known for his big hitting and of course the matchless Glenn McGrath, who after his retirement from international cricket is still a tough act to follow for the Aussies. Daniel Vettori who was adjudged man of the match in Delhi’s first match for his three wicket haul has already shown himself to be a key member of the team since spinners are able to get so much more in terms of results this season.
For the Chennai Super Kings Matthew Hayden will be a key player. His blistering 65 off 35 was instrumental in the Chennai team vanquishing the Bangalore team and his retirement does not seem to have affected his form as he is currently the leading run scorer. Also key to the Chennai performance today will be the all rounders Albie Morkel and of course Andrew Flintoff. Suresh Raina being in good touch also helps shore up the Chennai batting line up. The ‘Men in Yellow’ with ‘Captain mellow’ as the team is known will have the services of Dhoni himself!
The bowling for the team looks solid too with the crafty Murali and Manpreet Gony and Lakshmipathy Balaji. The spin battle between Muttiah Muralitharan and Daniel Vettori could turn out to be a contest to watch today. So this first of tonight’s double headers is the one to watch out for; it promises to be a cracker of a game and by all accounts the rain Gods are going to let up and give us a good match.
