Comes May and the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg will come into like with full range of power packed actions. Between May 2nd and May 19th, world’s some of the renowned cricketers will fight with bat and balls to resolve the question as to which four teams will be the season’s best. Once that is decided, Semi Finals will be held on May 23rd leading to the grand Finale on May 24th 2009.
With IPL reaching an amicable solution with Gauteng Cricket Board, the clouds over hosting some of the IPL matches have removed. With both the sides now finding agreeable solutions, the upcoming cricket matches scheduled for the Wanderers will go ahead as planned. In a joint press meet it was announced that the Wanderers will be hosting eight DLF Indian Premier League ties including six league games, a Semi Final and the Grand Final on May 24th 2008 for Season 2009 in South Africa. A visibly happy Lalit Modi thanked the CEO of Gauteng Cricket Board, CEO - Mr. Alan Kourie for extending his full cooperation for breaking the stalemate. “We are extremely pleased with the co-operation of the Gauteng Cricket Board and in particular the assistance received from their CEO - Mr. Alan Kourie. With this amicable resolution, I am glad the fans in Johannesburg will now be able to witness the cricket carnival that is the Season 2009 of the DLF Indian Premier League. Alan Kourie was not unhappy either. He said, “We are happy and proud to have reached an amicable resolution with the DLF Indian Premier League – as it now clears the way for hosting the business end of one of the best cricketing leagues in the world. Gauteng cricket fans will now be able to witness some truly amazing cricketers in action at our very own Wanderers Stadium. I believe the Grand Final of Season 2009 in South Africa will be an exciting experience for all of us, especially if the inaugural ceremony and the cricket that preceded it was anything to go by.” While the two warring sides take relief in ending the row, it comes as the real relief for the cricket fans of Johannesburg.
