Armed with Tips from Sachin & Lara, Bravo Aims High On IPL Print E-mail

He has been mentored by Brian Lara, and now he is being groomed under Sachin Tendulkar. With Lara’s inspiration and Sachin’s handy tips, West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo seems to be the luckiest cricketer at this moment. After an eight month absence, the West Indian is all resolved to make it big in South Africa.

The stylish West Indian batsman, Dwayne Bravo does not hide his emotions as it comes to batting maestro Brian Lara’s contributions in his life. Bravo, who grew up watching Lara, says that Lara was the first to spot talent in him. Since then, the batting genius has been taking interest in young Bravo to turn him into an international cricket star. And that he is today! Even Ambanis who own the Mumbai franchise offers him lift in their private jet, so that he can make it in time for the test series back home.

And this is one treatment that Bravo can’t forget. When asked about the funniest IPL moment, he mentioned this hospitality of the Ambanis. In general, the twenty six year old all rounder just loves playing twenty-20’s. And his liking for Twenty-20 has nothing much to do with pace or cricket technique as such---just like a typical West Indian, who loves singing and dancing, the rock-n-roll flavor of the shortest version of cricket makes him thoroughly enjoy the game.

And as for the ongoing Indian Premier League tournament, where he is playing for Mumbai Indians, he plans to work on Lara’s tips for improving his performance this year. ‘‘Yes, I have talked to him and he has told me how to go about it. I am trying to follow that,’’ Bravo told the cricket news media. And he would also try to copy some of Lara’s best strokes here. ‘‘Probably the pull shot, I love it the way Lara used to hit it. I also try it from time to time,’’ the guy from the Trinidad revealed.

But at some points, he thinks he would better consult the Mumbai captain, particularly when it comes to the correction of the habit of throwing away the wicket as he passes by 30 or 40. This tendency of getting out at 30 or 40 has earned him stern criticisms from various corners. This is an area, which he thinks he can improve after he gets expert advice from Tendulkar. ‘‘Yes, that’s an area that has bothered me on a few occasions. I will look to have a chat with the Little Master,’’ said the young all rounder.

After an ankle injury kept him out of international cricket circuit for eight long months, Indian Premier League will be a tasting ground for his fitness. While asked, whether he would reserve some of his energy for the upcoming cricket twenty-20 world cup in June, the player said he would fight with his hundred percent efforts. ‘‘Anyone who knows me will tell you that I never hold back. I always give 100 per cent,’’ retorted back West Indies’ most valued all rounder.
